Microbiologist: "Fish with mutated gills or mutated fins" via changes to DNA from oil?

National Geographic oil spill special features USF Scientist, ABC 10 Tampa, September 28, 2010: Excerpt The National Geographic show called "Can the Gulf Survive?" features a University of South Florida Professor researching fish and how they're being changed by long-term exposure to sub-surface oil. "... [W]e might see fish with tumors coming up in the next three or four years, or fish with mutated gills or mutated fins, things like that. So we don't know what we're going to see," said Dr. [John] Paul. We met up with Dr. Paul at USF in Tampa Tuesday as his colleagues with the College of Marine Science spoke to students. Paul says the mutations in fish mean changes in their DNA. That could affect commercial fisheries. "That means they can be inherited and they are permanent," he said.
