SPARKS FLY GREGOR SUZANNE ANTON QUIET RIOT IN CHAMBERS

City Council debates (sort of) questions to staff and points of order regarding the Provincial report into the Stanley Cup riot. After Councilor Anton declares that the Mayor must stand and deliver for taking care and control of the downtown party, Councilor Geoff Meggs comes to his procedural rescue (I guess Gregor was too busy practicing the tuba to learn how the City's meetings are supposed to be run). Suzanne garners the only applause of the day, sparse though it was, with her "You're not the boss of me" retort. The Second Stanley Cup riot was one of more than a dozen civil disturbances in the last hundred or so years of Vancouver's history. When Councilor Tim Stevenson said nothing like this happened when he was young, well, was he young in 1963-Grey Cup riot, 1966-Lions again, 1971-the Gastown riot, 1973-Rolling Stones riot? Seriously Tim, you're getting five grand a month, wake up.

This is the "Iron Maiden" biochar production system, in prototype stage. Called the iron maiden because the front door opens to allow the 90-120 gallon retort to be installed and removed, it will process 60-80 lbs of biomass and turn it into biochar. Biochar is a soil amendment that preserves certain nutrients in soil, which is a big issue in the Nortwest where constant rain leaches these nutrients away in the winter This production and the experimental planting of a 5 year test crop is taking place in Cottage Grove Oregon.
