Duncan Interviews Ralph Heath Part 1.wmv

Duncan Strauss, host of Talking Animals, interview with Ralph Heath, Founder, Seacoast Seabird Sanctuary. Discuss the Gulf Oil Spill. More on talkinganimals.net.

Here's an item I shot with Bill Montevecchi, who is a research professor at Memorial University in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. His speciality is migratory seabirds. He is part of an effort to track migration numbers and patterns. The largest population of Northern Gannets in the world makes its annual migration from eastern Canada to the southern US and the Gulf of Mexico every fall. There are concerns over the impact on thousands of these beautiful birds from lingering oil and/or Corexit dispersant contamination in the Gulf waters, and also the fish the birds will eat down there. The clip near the end of the piece is from Vanessa Roche, who is a guide at Cape St. Mary's Ecological Reserve, a large gannet nesting colony in Newfoundland.
