Managing Drought in the Southern Plains: Seasonal Forecasting






01/12/2012. We will begin with a summary from State Climatologists and the extremes faced by their respective states in the past year. This will be followed by the drought summary and outlook from Mark Svoboda at the National Drought Mitigation Center. Presenters for the seasonal forecasting topic include Dennis Todey, South Dakota State Climatologist and President of the American Association of State Climatologists, Jon Gottschalck from NOAA's Climate Prediction Center, and Holly Hartmann from CLIMAS. The topic will explain how to interpret seasonal outlooks, factors used in creating the outlooks, their skill and examples of how they are being used.
