Tokyo's most famous: The Hattori Clock
Today, the old tower is better known as the 'Wako Clock Tower.' It stands in Ginza 4-chome where the head office of K Hattori and Co, the predecessor to Seiko Corp was once located. The structure was known to people as "Hattori's Clock Tower" back then.
Kintaro Hattori started Hattori clock repair service in the Ginza district of Tokyo in 1881. By 1992, Hattori had become famous and was already launching wall clocks by the brand “Seikosha”. In Japanese, “Seiko” means both precision and success and “Sha” means the house. Not long after introduction of the first Swiss wristwatch, Hattori introduced his wristwatch in 1924 and for the first time used the name ‘Seiko.’ The company was incorporated K.Hattori & Co Ltd in 1917 and was renamed Hattori Seiko Co Ltd in 1983 and finally Seiko Corporation in 1990.
