The Hoover Building - London

Hoover Factory
Western Avenue, Greenford, UB6 8BW
Architects: Wallis Gilbert & Partners, 1931-38
This London landmark was the office and factory for the Hoover company from 1933. The glazed facade gives the appearance of a floorless expanse, although in fact it has several floors. The whole area of the ground floor was used as a workshop.
The American-style building decorated with bright coloured faience (glazed ceramic inspired by ancient Egypt. The floodlighting, which it still has today, was part of the original design scheme.
Part of the building is owned by Tesco supermarket which has parking available.

HMS Ocean Moored in London for Olympic Games

HMS Ocean is pictured moored on the River Thames in London during the Olympic Games.
After the training exercises earlier in the year, HMS Ocean returned to London for a key role supporting the police in providing security to the Olympic Games. She was berthed at Greenwich until after the Paralympics, and acted as a helicopter landing platform and logistics hub in support of maritime and air security operations.
